Woodard Dominates Central Asphalt Tiger Triple Crown; Late Model Redemption for Goodbout
/N. Woodstock, NH — White Mountain Motorsports Park returned to life on Saturday evening, headlined by the second round in the Central Asphalt Paving Triple Crown Series for the Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers. Twenty strong, the battle throughout the field was entertaining, to say the least, with a familiar face ending up with the checkered flag in hand.
Longtime Late Model competitor Eric Chase and former Thunder Road track champion Mike Martin set up the front row for the 75-lap Central Asphalt Paving Triple Crown event. Martin got the jump on the outside lane, followed closely by Triple Crown point leader Jason Woodard as Chase fell back into a battle with Chris LaForest and Shane Sicard. Sicard eventually made his way around and began to chase down the leaders. Seeing the #4NH in his rearview mirror, Woodard picked up the pace around Martin and stayed three car lengths ahead of Sicard.
The pair of late-race cautions set up a final side-by-side dogfight between Sicard and Woodard as Martin and hardcharger Sam Caron waited in the second row, catbird seat. Under the green, Caron made his way around Sicard for second, but time ran out. Jason Woodard made it two-for-two in Central Asphalt Triple Crown competition with Sam Caron making a great charge to second from nineteenth on the grid and Sicard rounding out the top three.
The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division started off Saturday night action at White Mountain Motorsports Park with Cooper Benoit heading into the lead under the drop of the green flag. Coop was then overtaken by the onslaught of Owen Dupuis, Gracen Gorham and Lucas Sidney with Sidney taking over the lead and his fourth win of the season followed by Gorham and Benoit across the stripe.
Next up it was the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis with Aiden Young and Jason Ball in command out front. After a strong start, McKenna Merchant swung around from the highside to crush Young’s career day with point leader Jacob Roy in tow, four car lengths behind. Meanwhile, Donnie Baumgardner had his hands full with rookie Logan Farnsworth and last week’s winner JJ Goodbout while Merchant kept Roy at bay under the checkered flags for her first win of the season. Tyler Thompson gained a second wind to come up through the Baumgardner/Farnsworth/Goodbout gaggle to come home third.
The 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models followed Kyle Goodbout and Reilly Lanphear two-by-two under the green flag with Stacy Cahoon quickly going toe-to-toe with Lanphear. Coming up through the top-ten, part-timer Derrick O’Donnell sliced through the field but under the long green-flag run he didn’t have the position to pressure Tyler Cahoon and Goodbout nearly half a track ahead. Goodbout would earn his first win of the year followed by Tyler Cahoon and O’Donnell in victory lane. O’Donnell’s refusal of post-race technical inspection gifted the third-place honors to Stacy Cahoon.
The Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models went for twin 20-lap segments on Central Asphalt Paving Saturday. After taking the win in Segment #1, defending champion Nick Miller sat shotgun on the field for the second segment with just twenty laps to make his way back to the front. Without the aid of a caution to re-rack the field, Miller did all he could to chase down last year’s top rookie Chris Moulton and invader Nick Rheaume before time ran out. By virtue of his lower combined score, Moulton notched the win with Miller coming in second and Rheaume rounding out the podium finish.
