Raphael Lessard Takes ACT Kancamagus 150; O'Donnell and Roy Split Strictly Mini Doubles
/N. Woodstock, NH — Racing has finally gotten underway for the first time in two weeks at White Mountain Motorsports Park, much to the excitement of race fans, drivers and officials alike. In the end, four elated winners stood in Milton CAT victory lane.
Saturday’s short track racing action started off with the rain-delayed HK Powersports feature event for the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis. The rain delay certainly helped sophomore competitor Landyn O’Donnell who fired off from the front row and never looked back, even after the spinning rookie Hayden Morris brought out the lone caution on lap 17. O’Donnell would nail down his second career win in the Strictly Mini class with Vermont invader Kyler Davis and Tyler Thompson rounding out the podium.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis returned later on for their regularly scheduled program as part of the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Kancamagus 150 at the end of the night. This time it was JJ Goodbout leading the way with O’Donnell to his outside. Goodbout set the pace until an ill-handling car fought back, sending him to the infield and allowing Jacob Roy to take over the lead. Roy held his own with Davis and O’Donnell fighting for second with Jacob Roy taking his first win of the season followed by Davis making it two second-place finishes in two starts and Donnie Baumgardner taking third.
A pair of early cautions opened the Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tiger feature event with Nate Hamblett showing the way before Owen Cheney took over the lead on lap seven. The two fought neck and neck with Hamblett coming back on the outside lane to steal the lead back. A pair of melee launches into the infield on lap 30 reracked the field but it was Nathan Hamblett who took down his first career Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tiger win over Luke Peters and Tyler Pepin at the line.
The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour made its first of three visits to White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday. The field was paced by former White Mountain track champions Kasey Beattie and D.J. Shaw under the initial green flag but Larue Motorsports quickly made their presence known. The team cars of Raphael Lessard and William Larue kept Shaw and Beattie honest out front, stalking in a two-by-two blanket at the front of the pack.
One of the closest, hardest racing in recent memory at New Hampshire’s Favorite Short Track saw Shaw take the lead ahead in a cat and mouse game. The final caution flag flew to set up a four lap shoot-out to the end with Shaw trying anything he could to maintain the point, and Lessard holding his own and motoring away with the lead under the two-to-go twin sticks. Raphael Lessard did everything he had to do and walked away with his first Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour win of the season, maintaining his lead atop the international point standings in the process. Kasey Beattie kept his nose clean to finish second, his best on the touring circuit this season and William Larue rounding out the top three.
