Quinny Welch Earns 11th King of the Mountain Championship and 20-20 Shootout Win
/White Mountain Honors Late Model Hero Stacy Cahoon on Eve of Retirement
N. Woodstock, NH — In a day celebrating the 2026 champions of White Mountain Motorsports Park, New Hampshire’s Favorite Short Track also honored one of its most enduring figures. Six-time White Mountain Motorsports Park champion Stacy Cahoon closed the curtain on a 40-year career of racing in Northern New England as a multi-time champion of White Mountain and Groveton’s Riverside Speedway and an American-Canadian Tour and Thunder Road winner among many other accolades.
The 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models kicked off feature racing with a 50-lap finale to decide the 2026 King of the Mountain championship between Quinny Welch and Kasey Beattie. It started as a battle of the ones between the 1VT of Kyler Davis and the 1ME of Mike ‘Beetle’ Bailey, who both put on a show at the front of the pack. A flat right-rear tire sent rookie Lukee Shannon spinning in turn two, bringing out the lap 27 caution and lining Davis alongside Kyle Goodbout. Goodbout ran off with the restart and never looked back to take his fifth win of the season over ACT invader Gabe Brown and Kasey Beattie in third. The podium finishes for Goodbout and Beattie were not enough to hold back Quinny Welch who collected his record 11th King of the Mountain championship at White Mountain.
The Late Models returned to action for the invitational 20-20 Shootout later in Friday’s program with two 20-lap segments with nothing but money and bragging rights on the line! With Segment #1 set by handicap following their championship event, Kyler Davis ran away with the caution-free first segment but faced an uphill battle starting at the rear of Segment Two following the full-field invert. McKenna Merchant and Brian Whalley brought the field down to the green for the second 20 with Whalley leading. Shootout hopefuls Landyn O’Donnell and Lukee Shannon made contact on lap 6, ending both their nights.
Back under green, Quinny Welch used the open outside lane to close into third as Segment One winner Kyler Davis attempted to follow the champ. Welch went side-by-side with Whalley while Davis couldn’t get under ‘Beetle’ Bailey back in fourth. Welch made his way around Whalley with six to go and took the Segment Two win and the $1,000 overall win with 4 points to Davis’ 5.
The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division had a rough start to the C.W. Gray & Sons Auctioneers King of the Kids showdown with multiple accidents ending the day for nearly half the field. Returning to the track after being put in the penalty box, Evan Folsom kept pace at the front of the pack and took down the win over Chloe Doyle and Bryson Wyman with Wyman earning his first career podium finish in the youth division!
The Caulder Construction Dwarf Cars entered the night with one of the tightest point battles in recent memory for the scaled-down, open-wheeled machines. Mitchell O’Brien and rookie Jack Hayes brought the field to green before Hayes made contact with Dennis O’Brien, ending both their nights without calling out a caution. Brofman inherited the lead with point leader Ethan Tyrrell hot on his heels, stealing the lead on lap 5. From then on, Jeff Ainsworth could only follow Tyrrell across the stripe under the checkered flag, which was how the championship would shake out. Ethan Tyrrell took down his first career Dwarf Car championship at the Mountain with defending champ Jason Wyman rounding out the podium in third.
Nate ‘Tater’ Brien and point leader Jacob Roy brought the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Strictly Minis to green for the tightest championship battle of the evening. After qualifying Roy was leading Tyler Thompson by a single point over Tyler Thompson with Thompson relegated to start 10th as last week’s winner. Coming down to whoever could beat the other under the checkered flag, Thompson became mired behind side-by-side traffic and by the time he broke free, laps had wound down. Jacob Roy’s second-place finish, behind Rookie of the Year Lucas Sidney, earned him the championship with Tyler Whittemore coming home third.
The fight for the inaugural Crown Vic championship came down to the final 20-lap feature of the year. Championship hopeful Ethan Williams quickly took the lead in hopes of knocking Frank Sweeney off the top of the standings for the first time all season. Sweeney faced a hard fight with Mike ‘Slingshot’ Slingerland and Mike Gilbert racing side-by-side before finally breaking free and setting his sights on Williams. The two top point chasers fought hard the last three laps, crossing each other over in the corners while Todd Derrington watched in third, hoping for another win. Sweeney took the lead on the final lap and earned the championship in the same ten-seconds over Ethan Williams with Todd Derrington taking third.
By taking the green flag, Groton, Vermont’s Luke Peters earned the 2026 Farmyard Store Flying Tiger championship but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t go after win #9. Shane Sicard quickly launched to the lead with Mike Clark and Cameron Ouellette stalking from behind. The caution-free, green-to-checkers feature event finished in just eight and a half minutes with Shane Sicard finally getting the monkey off his back to take win number one on the year over Ouellette and Kyle Willis at the line.
White Mountain Motorsports Park has official wrapped up the 2026 season with the top stars set to celebrate their accolades at the annual Banquet of Champions held at the Fireside Inn & Suites in West Lebanon, New Hampshire on Saturday, November 7.
