Prescott Takes Career First in Wall’s Ford Late Model 100; Brown Bests PASS Field
/N. Woodstock, NH — A picture perfect afternoon greeted race fans and teams at White Mountain Motorsports Park for the hard-charging doubleheader between the Pro All Stars Series and the Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series.
With an incredible +6 earned from heat two, defending Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series champion Gabe Brown earned the pole position for the rain-delayed Spring Board 100 on Sunday afternoon. Seven-time Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour champion Brian Hoar lined-up alongside after earning a +4 in Plus/Minus Handicap qualifying action. The two touring champions battled side-by-side for the first sixteen circuits around the White Mountain quarter-mile while Quinny Welch and Justin Prescott followed close behind along with Kaiden Fisher and Kasey Beattie in a star-power front of the pack.
Brown’s turn at the front left with an infield spin on lap 18 to take him out of the chase, leaving a father-son restart between Prescott and Hoar. Prescott bested the Old Man to lead lap 40 while Beattie shuffled among the top six to keep his chances alive. The final caution flag flew on lap 90 for the spinning and stalled Thomas Smithers VI at the bottom of turn four to set up a ten-lap Wall’s Ford trophy dash! In the end, it was all Justin Prescott under the twin checkered flags as Beattie and D.J. Shaw fought hard to the stripe with Beattie taking second and Shaw coming home third. Gabe Brown recovered from his lap 18 spin and drove back up to fourth on the grid with Kaiden Fisher holding on for fifth.
Young Silas Ripley brought the PASS Super Late Models to green for their first 150 lap showdown in the month of July but another #09 in Jeremy Davis quickly took over the point. Ripley made his way back on top before the lap 70 caution for a stalled Bobby Therrien atop turn two. Ripley and Gabe Brown battled hard at the front on the restart with Brown finally breaking the chain to lead lap 76. Never looking back, Brown fought tooth and nail through lap traffic to lap back to eighth place and take the win with D.J. Shaw in a photo finish to take second over Silas Ripley by just 0.010 seconds.
The New England Supermodified Series returned to White Mountain defending series Matt Swanson launching under the green flag to a half-second lead over Dan Bowes. A heavy battle while lapping the mid-pack saw Swanson, Bowes and Jeffrey Battle getting physical at breakneck speeds before Keith Morrill brought out the first caution. Although Battle poured on the pressure from behind, Matt Swanson took the win with Bowes rounding out the top-three.
The PASS Modifieds were led from green to checkered by Bill Penfold after starting on the pole position with just one hiccup on lap 22. Contact between Mark Lundblad Jr. and Spencer Morse on the frontstretch earned Morse a ride on the frontstretch wall and a tow back into the pits with Lundblad getting sent to the rear for his involvement. At the end of fifty laps Cody Macomber and Spencer Vaughn rounded out the podium.
Next up at White Mountain Motorsports Park is Midseason Championships with all six divisions piling in for the annual Double Points spectacular!
