Luke Peters Uses Late Race Pick to Take Central Asphalt Independence Day 76 at WMMP

N. Woodstock, NH — The Fourth of July brought a holiday spectacular for the ages to White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday headlined by Round #2 in the Central Asphalt Paving Triple Crown. The Independence Day 76 for The Farmyard Store Flying Tigers saw twenty-one teams enter the event with defending Thunder Road champion Sam Caron and White Mountain hot-shoe Kyle Willis leading the field to green.
Caron would launch away with the lead in the opening laps as Willis back-slid on the outside lane. Luke Peters would motor around Cam Gadue in the early circuits and chased down Caron to stay within two car-lengths as the field stretched out with the long green-flag run. Following the lap 38 caution for Willis’ spin in turn two, Peters and Caron fought doorhandle-to-doorhandle before Caron powered away once again. The defining moment of the race would come on lap 61 as the two leaders came upon the lap cars of Chris Moulton and JT Blanchard with Peters using the pick to jump underneath Caron and walk away with the lead to the very end. Groton’s Luke Peters would nail down the Independence Day 76 over Sam Caron with the quick and consistent Cameron Ouellette rounding out the extra-distance podium.
The Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division kicked off Saturday’s racing action with their 15-lap main event. Bella Hamel led the early circuits as Cameron Beattie, Cooper Benoit and Maddie Potter kept the momentum up on the inside groove. Under the two-to-go popsicle sticks, Beattie moved to the inside of Hamel, taking the lead under the white flag and coming home to the win on lap later with Gracen Gorham and Evan Folsom rounding out the top three.
The 1764 Sports Bar & Grill Late Models were brought to green by rookies Landyn O’Donnell and Lukee Shannon. O’Donnell got the early lead and drove off as Thomas Smithers VI, Kasey Beattie and Colin Cornell fought hard for third. The spin for McKenna Merchant in turn four on lap 23 would put the rookies back side-by-side for the restart with Shannon nabbing the lead from the inside with Richie Brown following him on the bottom. One more quick spin caution with 12 laps remaining had no effect on Lukee Shannon who took down his first career Late Model win over Kasey Beattie and Landyn O’Donnell.
Chad Dufour brought the Caulder Construction Dwarf Cars to the field, leading the field through the majority of their 20 lap main event on Saturday. Butch King would bring out the final caution on lap 17 to set up a nail-biting shoot out with Jeff Ainsworth and Dave Gyger. Ainsworth and Dufour would make contact in turn four, sliding across the line sideways under the white flag but Jeff Ainsworth held on to it to take the win with Gyger and Dennis O’Brien rounding out the top three.
The White Mountain Crown Vics returned to the highbanks for the third time this season with Danville’s Scott Corey running away with the early lead. Coming from second-to-last, two-time winner Frankie Sweeney put on a show coming up through the field of wild and wacky Crown Victorias. The green-to-checkered feature saw Sweeney pull up alongside Corey for a dead-even run under the two-to-go signal with Sweeney taking the win two laps later as Rhode Island’s Ethan Williams took third.
Rookie Lucas Sidney brought the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Strictly Minis to bear for their 25 lap main event. Jacob Roy and Tyler Thompson made things interesting on lap five with a slam-bang affair into turn one with Donnie Baumgardner taking a piece of it for good measure. Back under green Sidney again maintained pace out front all the way to his second win of the 2026 season over JJ Goodbout and Thunder Road invader Tyler Whittemore at the stripe.
