After Dominating New Hampshire Governor’s Cup, Renfrew Loses Out in Tech

N. Woodstock, NH — A great crowd filed into White Mountain Motorsports Park Saturday night for the second round in the Wall’s Ford Platinum Late Model Series. The Kid’s Bike and Scooter giveaway also called in the kids and families to experience a fun night at the races!
The Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers got Saturday’s showcase off and running with Nate Hamblett taking off with the lead under the green flag. A stalemate battle for fourth between Logan Powers, Tyler Pepin, Matt Potter and Shane Sicard finally broke by the halfway point with Sicard running away to chase down Hamblett. Without the aid of a caution flag, Sicard could only settle for second with Nate Hamblett walking away for his second career Flying Tiger win with Luke Peters rounding out the podium.
After powering through to win segment one, Garrett Labounty found himself on the outside looking in in the second 15-lap segment for the Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models. Brett Jackson took off from the point to lead segment two with Cody LeBlanc taking over the lead on lap 5. Point leader Nick Miller followed teammate LeBlanc on the outside lane with LaBounty trying desperately to keep pace as laps dwindled out.
In Dwarf Car segment racing, Jason Wyman took down segment one in dominant style and found his way to third by lap two in a fight with Chad Dufour. The two veterans duked it out for second before leader Dan Brofman said “No thank you” and slid out of the way on the high side. Wyman quickly took over the top spot and never slowed, taking the perfect score of two for winning both segments with Dufour and Jeff Ainsworth earning second and third.
Aiden Young and Jason Ball started side-by-side to bring the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis to green with Ball taking the edge. A mirror full of JJ Goodbout, the local boy took over the lead as point leaders Jacob Roy, Donnie Baumgardner and Tyler Thompson began to hunt him down. Baumgardner got the better of his fellow point chasers but ultimately had nothing for Goodbout who took down his third win of the season with Thompson rounding out the podium.
Quinny Welch with a +5 earned in heat race qualifying started off the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 100 from the point but following the lap 14 caution for Richie Brown’s shut down Chevy Camaro it was all Jimmy Renfrew Jr. Renfrew took command and never looked back through a series of single car spins, a turn one pile-up from the back of the field and a hard hit for Dylan Payea in turn two that brought out the red flag. What came next was a sixty-lap green flag run that saw Renfrew absolutely lambaste the field en-route to the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup win at the line.
A spirited battle between Gabe Brown and Kasey Beattie for second lit up the final fifteen circuits with Brown taking second and Beattie finishing third on the track. In post-race technical inspection, Renfrew’s #00NH Chevy Camaro failed the coil-bind test as officials discovered travel-limiting suspension. Brown was awarded the win with Beattie second and opening Wall’s Ford Platinum Series winner Justin Prescott in third.
