WMMP announces May 17th slated as 2014 opener, GSPSS makes first ever visit to the Mountain, and Pete Knight added to tech team
While the winter cold sets in to the Central NH area, things are beginning to take shape and heat up at the White Mountain Motorsports Park oval, perfectly nicknamed as “Thunder in the Mountains” in North Woodstock NH.
Owners Donnie and Teri Avery are pleased to announce that the start to the 2014 race season has been set to begin on Saturday May 10th, with an open practice for all divisions at WMMP including the Kids Trucks division. That will allow teams to get a good jump on their season because the following Saturday May 17th, WMMP will host their annual car show and later on in the day hold their opening ceremonies and the first race of the season with all six racing divisions in action. Starting times will be announced at a later date.
Speaking about the upcoming schedule, it is still in the works but there are some dates you may want to mark on your calendar.
For the first time in 2014, the Granite State Pro Stock Series will invade the high banks of WMMP. President and racer Mike Parks could not be happier to have the series making a stop at the Park and is excited for the series to visit the high banked, quarter-mile speed plant. “The track is very similar to what 85% of our teams are used to, so our teams will adapt to very quickly,” states Parks. “WMMP is one of New England's premier racing facilities, and we are proud to be a part of their schedule”. The 100 lap event is scheduleon Saturday September 20th.
WMMP will again host the PASS Super Late Models in 2014 for a pair of visits. On Saturday May 24 the Super Late Models will have a 150 lap event and then again on Saturday August 9th. PASS will include their Modified racing series on the August 9th date, running a 75 lap main event.
The ACT tour will grace the high banks of WMMP on Saturday June 21st. The ACT tour is always well attended and don’t be surprised to see a few of the WMMP regular Late Model teams taking part in the 150 lap competition.
WMMP will host their own annual NAPA Late Model 100 lap event on Saturday July 5th.On that same night WMMP teams up with R&R Fireworks of Bethlehem and puts on one of the largest displays of fireworks in the valley.
The WMMP staff is pleased to announce a new member to their technical/safety team for 2014. Long time ACT race team manager, Pete Knight, will be added to the group. Pete’s vast knowledge and experience in the area of Late Model racing will enhance and strengthen the current WMMP technical team.
There will be a couple of new general rule changes that owners Donnie and Teri Avery are hoping to help out their regular weekly racers. “We’re going to try and help out our devoted weekly race teams,” said Avery. “Over the years, we have seen a few of our race teams effected greatly by unavoidable family events that happen during a race season. Between, weddings, graduations, family reunions and untimely events, our regular weekly teams will be given a one race substitute driver in 2014. The rule will be strictly adhered to and hopefully can help out those teams that are committed to racing for an entire season”. A copy of the rule is below:
Licensed WMMP drivers will be allowed a one time driver substitution during their season of competition, at the discretion of speedway officials. An example of driver substitution would be related to a family emergency, funeral, wedding, graduation, family function, etc… Driver substitution dates should be pre-approved unless unavoidable.
The driver selected must be from the same division or lower and approved by speedway officials. All WMMP rules apply with Driver Substitution in order to receive points, to include race car, tires, and required finishing weights. The starting position for the substitute driver during all qualifying and feature events will be the last starting spot. All points accumulated by the substitute driver will go to the driver being substituted for. Speedway officials reserve the right to make any necessary changes to this rule in the interest of racing integrity.
The other general rule change will allow Dwarf drivers to race in another division on their off nights at WMMP. See rule Below:
A licensed Dwarf Car driver may race in another racing division at WMMP in 2014. The only time allowable is when the Dwarf Car division is not in action. The intent of this rule is to provide the driver’s of the Dwarf Car division, a chance to race every weekend. A Dwarf car driver racing in another division must follow all WMMP rules. A Dwarf Car driver must have competed in 100% of all Dwarf events, and can race in Tiger/Sportsman or lesser division. No racing in the Late Model division allowed. Speedway officials reserve the right to make any necessary changes to this rule in the interest of racing integrity.
There are plenty of details currently underway at WMMP. The track is always looking for business sponsorships and if your business is looking to work with the speedway in some manner you can contact the speedway at 603-745-6727or Jean LeBlanc at 603-723-8559. There are several different sponsorship packages available that can fit any size business with ease. See you Saturday May 10th.
