Wheeler, Wyman, and Amour earn first White Mountain Motorsports Park feature wins
NORTH WOODSTOCK- Amanda Wheeler, Jeremy Wyman, and Evan Amour fought off all challengers, and veterans Stacy Cahoon and Scott Coburn ran at the front of the pack earning checkered flag honors at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock Saturday.
Will Avery and rookie Ryan Olsen brought the NAPA Late Model field to green for their 50 lap main event. The speedway's premier racing division was flawless over the first 35 laps. Olsen appeared to be well on his way to his first ever victory and had Cahoon, Avery, the #42 of Mike Jurkowski, and the #17 of Todd Aldrich in tow. The Red flag came out on the 35th circuit as the #51 of Jeremy Harclerode and Aldrich took a hard ride into the back stretch wall. Both drivers emerged unhurt from their racers, unfortunately ending their evening. The field was re-aligned and the young Olsen now had the 2012 champion Cahoon to his outside. However, Olsen's mount was stout and he was able to again break free from the pack and hold off Cahoon. Mechanical problems reared its ugly head for the #61 during lap 39. Parts of the starter and flywheel broke through the floor and into the windshield of Olsen, ending his hopes for his first late model victory.
The field went to green and over the final twelve laps, Cahoon was able to hold off the hard charging Oren Remik and point leader Travis Fadden. Jurkowski continued his strong runs and rolled the #42 across in fourth and Littleton's Russ Clark rocketed his #02 into the top five. Heat wins went to Avery and Olsen, while Aldrich was very impressive winning the semi feature.
It was the Scott Coburn show in the White Mountains Community College Tiger/Sportsman division. Coburn seized an opportunity when co-point leader, George May, could not participate because of a family commitment. Coburn grabbed the lead on lap 13 and rolled to the feature victory with David Baron, Jason Fallman, Richie Lafond, and Stephen Hodgdon rounding out the top five. Coburn won the heat race taking to the outside with two laps to go and winning by a close margin at the finish line.
The size of the field was noticably smaller for the Kingdom Trailer Strictly Stocks. The Strictlys had 17 cars the previous week and were ten strong as the green flag waived on this night for Amanda Wheeler and Gordon Day. For 25 laps, the Strictlys stayed nose to tail with passing within the pack. No cautions this week and it was the #20 of Wheeler piloting her Chevy Monte Carlo into victory lane. Day took home the runner-up spot with Tom Keith, Chandler Potter, and Elwin Sidney III completing the top five. Wheeler made it a perfect points night capturing the heat win as well.
For the second week in a row, the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis continue to be the most competitive and wild racing division. Twenty laps, three cautions, and two early dismissals for rough riding had the #23 of Jeremy Wyman taking the checkered flag. The Woodsville resident held off a pair of hard chargers in the #99 of Ben Belanger and #94 of Brett Rowell. Michael Richards Jr. and Jesse Switser completed the top five. Wyman and Desirae Sicard were the heat winners.
There were four Dad's 4 By Tool & Supply Kids trucks on hand and the action did not disappoint the fans. Evan Amour captured his first ever feature win beating the hard charging #63 of Michael Denis. The #77 of Anthony Tompkins was able to nip Caleb Rogers at the line to earn his first podium finish of 2013. Amour took the eight lap heat victory.
