Triple Crown Late Model Win for Will Avery, Keith is Tops in Strictly Special
NORTH WOODSTOCK- Campton NH’s, Will Avery, made his first Napa Late Model win a memorable one, capturing his heat, semi-feature, and the 50 lap main event, to be the first triple crown winner of 2013 at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock Saturday. Tom Keith took to the lead on lap 17 of his Strictly Stock 50 lap special feature, earning his third feature of the season.
Sean Akers and Avery brought the Napa Late Models to green and it didn’t take Avery long to take control of the main event, with rookie Ryan Olsen in pursuit. By lap five, Stacy Cahoon was in the top three and looking for a way to get around Olsen. The top three appeared to be very content to stay where they were, while the field behind them sorted things out. Over the final few laps, Avery began to put some distance between himself and the rest of the field, winning the 50 lap main event pulling away. Olsen, Cahoon, Timmy Churchill, and Tyler Cahoon rounded out the top five. Avery and Churchill won their qualifying races, with Avery winning the semi-feature to earn the triple-crown night.
The Kingdom Trailer Strictly Stocks enjoyed their special night. Arnold’s Garage, R&R Fireworks, Gill’s Flower Shop, and New England Security teamed up to provide just over $1100 in bonus money for the stockers. Out of car introductions and the top six finishers in their qualifying races, redrew for final starting positions on the front stretch. Gorham NH’s Cody LeBlanc drew the pole position and the youngster was in some pretty good company with the divisions’ top two point men, Elwin Sidney III on his passenger door and "Tiger" Tom Keith on his bumper. The trio ran hard until caution flew on lap 12 realigning Keith on LeBlanc’s outside and veteran Bobby Taylor on his bumper. LeBlanc’s run up front came to an end on Lap 17, when Taylor and LeBlanc made contact, allowing Keith to scamper to the front. The yellow flag came out on lap 30, giving Taylor a shot on the outside of Keith to get to the front. Keith was ready for Taylor's attempt and rolled to his third victory of the season while Taylor slid back on the outside. Sidney, Chandler Potter, Lucas Wheeler, and Taylor completed the top five. Heat victories went to Keith and Sidney.
The White Mountains Community College Tiger/Sportsman ran their 25 lap feature caution free. Barre, Vermont’s George May took to the outside groove, and had his #16 in the lead on lap five. May was chased down by the #1 of Scott Coburn. Coburn was able to get to May’s bumper, but ran out of time allowing May to win his sixth feature in 2013. Coburn, David Baron Sr., Jason Fallman, and Richie Lafond took home a top five position. Fallman earned himself the qualifying race victory.
The Woodsville Guaranty Strictly Minis were brought to green by the #37 of Dustin Jackson and rookie driver Cody Smith. Jeremy Wyman rolled to the front of the field from his fifth starting spot to take over the lead from Jackson. Colby Bourgeios, Ben Belanger, and Brett Rowell battled one another until lap 13. Rowell and a lapped car brought out the caution, sending the #2 points man to the rear of the field. Wyman was just too strong on this evening and pulled away from everyone. Belanger, Jackson, Desirae Sicard, and Bourgeios finished in the top five. Jackson failed to meet the division’s ride height requirement allowing Sicard and Bourgeios to improve one position in the finishing order. Jackson and Bourgeios were victorious in the qualifying races.
The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kid’s Truck division had two new drivers in #43 Cheryl Joyce and #54 Colin Cornell. Michael Dennis motored to the front on lap one and was never seriously challenged until caution flew for the stalled truck of Taylor Coburn. On the restart, Dennis held off the #17 of Evan Amour, the #4 of Kaleb Rogers, and the #77 of Anthony Tompkins. Cornell completed the top five racers. Dennis made it a perfect night by winning the heat race.
