WMMP finally gets in a night of racing here at "Thunder in the Mountains" with Randy Potter pulling off a feature win. Racing tonight was eventful to say the least, with many cautions throughout the night. The NAPA Late Models capped off the night with its 100 lap event. Randy Potter took to the track and raced his way from the back to take the lead by lap 40 and lead the rest of the night. Quinten Welch in the 78 car did not have the benefit of four fresh tires but still managed to pull off a second place finish, also coming from the back of the pack. Racing his heart out tonight to keep pace with the leaders was the 60 of Dan Colby. This third place finish will definitely help Colby who lagged behind in points. We look forward to next week's 150 lap ACT race which has been delayed twice now, or was it three times. Anyways, plan on attending next weeks' ACT feature event here at WMMP.
The SHUTTLE CONNECTION Super Streets put on a good show for the crowd tonight. Jourdon Davis took his qualifier and was running quite well tonight but had to settle for third overall, placing behind the 91 of Don Drew. Don Drew was quite please making it into victory lane for the first time this year. Winning the feature was local boy Tim Churchill. Churchill returned this year after taking some time off and is in the points race for the championship. Churchill thanked sponsors Dumont Construction, Autobody Works and the crew at Tims Whitemountain Garage.
Elwin Sidney has dominated the Beacon Resort Strictly Stocks in the past few weeks with tonight being a repeat performance. The 84 car with its driver make for quite a pair to beat. Trying their hardest was the #6 of Cam Clairmont and the #63 of Tom Keith who had to settle for second and third. Clairmont was running well, keeping pace with Sidney tonight and keeping Keith at bay who just did not have enough momentum to get by Clairmont. Elwin Sidney again credited his victory to everyone else who helps in the pits and at home supporting his racing.
Allan Young started the day off bad, with his car hauler suffering a breakdown on his way to the track. His car made it to the track in time for practice and all seemed good but with only a few laps left on the feature, the points leader suffered a tire failure which caused him to pit. This however provided the driver who came in tonight second in points with a third place finish. Nick Pilotte drove the #14 into victory lane with a third place finish right behind the #37 of Dustin Jackson. Jackson balanced good driving with a bit of good luck to finish second tonight. Finishing with a win was the #99 of Tucker Williams. Williams managed to weave his way into victory lane the champion tonight, thanking sponsors Eric's auto repair, Tatro Brothers concrete and excavation and Fred's Import Specialists.
The Kids' Truck Division, sponsored by HK Powersports, had two seperate features again tonight. In the first feature several cautions came out during the 15 lap event. When the dust settled we saw veteran Gordon Day reel in a third place with his #47 truck, Derek Stone snagged second with his #77 truck and Alex Kelly pulled off a win with his #6 truck. Alex thanked his sponsors Napa Autoparts of Laconia and Meredith, Extreme autocare of Belmont, Colorscapes of Meredith, House of Tatoos in Laconia and Meredith and Bert and Ernies Used Cars in Laconia.
The second Kids' truck feature saw Brandon Bourne take third with his #31 truck, the #33 of Alex Ferno pull off a second place finish and Alexander Rooney Winning his feature event. Alex Rooney was denied a win at his last race as he braked to avoid contact with another driver right as the checkers flew. Losing that night may have been hard but was a lesson learned, it is always better to be safe and win another night than to race hard and take a chance on hurting someone else or yourself. Congrats to the #97 racing team for their win tonight.
Next week here at WMMP we have the return of the ACT with a 150 lap feature event. Also next week on the 16th we will be having the Kids Bike Race. The Pit Gate will open at 1:00, the main gate at 2:00, practice is set to begin at 3:30, the Kids Bike Race will begin at 5:30 and racing will begin at 6:00 pm (or shortly after the kids bike racing). Donnie and Teri Avery, along with all the drivers want to thank everyone for coming each and every week to cheer on and support the drivers. We look forward to seeing you on the 16th.
