Racing action grinded to a halt here as mother nature blessed us with more rain tonight, washing out any hopes of getting in our final feature event. The drivers to watch tonight in the NAPA Late Model division all placed in the top three of thier qualifiers. In the first heat we saw Russ Clark finish third, Norman Andrews second and Brett Clairmont finish first. In the second heat, Travis Fadden finished third, David LaBreque second and Ben Lynch first. In the final heat we saw Donnie Lashua take third, Kyle Hart held onto second and Cody Bodwell finished first. All first place finishers were former kids division drivers! At the Semi, we saw Russ Clark place third, Travis Fadden second and Norman Andrews take the win. As the night went on the threat of impending rain became a reality right at the end of the Shuttle Connection Super Street Feature. The decision to run the Late Model feature another week was made and that race will be made up on another night.
The Super Street Feature was run as the threat of rain loomed overhead. Leading the pack for most of the race was Dan Curren. He pulled away from the rest of the pack and led the race for 29 out of 30 laps. However it always boils down to the final lap. The crowd saw Tim Churchill make his way from the rear past Tyler Alati and with less than five laps to go, closed the gap on the leader and make the pass at the homestretch to steal victory away from Dan Curren. The feature finished out with Tyler Alati taking third, Dan Curren placing second and Tim Churchill winning the feature.
The Beacon Resort Strictly Stock division saw some good racing action tonight as Steve Parker tried to win one for his soon to be two year old daughter Aryonna. It just wasn't in the cards for Steve tonight who had to settle for a third place finish behind Alex Kelley who is in his first year in this division and is clearly a driver to be reckoned with. Having a excellent week again this week with his new ride was Tom Keith. Tom is now driving a refurbed Fadden Racing machine that now bears the familar 63. Keith dominated the field again this week getting himself out in front and setting the pace.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock division saw some familiar faces in victory lane again this week. These three drivers are consistantly running the show here at WMMP, making their way to the front from the rear each and every week to steal the win from the rest of the division. Their skill combined with their fine tuned cars make it very difficult for the rest of the drivers to share in victory lane. Nick Pilotte and Opie Thayer followed Rubin Call around this track, each taking turns at attempting to overtake Call for the lead. Neither car seemed to have it this week and having to settle for third was Nick Pilotte, second went to Opie Thayer and Rubin Call was awarded victory tonight. Each driver credited one another with clean racing and each commented how much fun they had racing against one another.
The HK POWERSPORTS kids truck division saw some interesting racing at tonights 15 lap feature. It seemed that for each lap we had a caution, which is an exaggeration, almost. Although there were no mishaps into the wall or rollovers, there certainly seemed to be quite a bit of bumping and nudging going on between these drivers this week. When everything was said and done, Lucas Wheeler earned himself a third place finish. Placing second was Alex Ferno and pulling off a victory was Allmon Evans.
Next week at Thunder in the Mountains, we will feature the NAPA LATE MODEL Triple 25's. This will be a lot of fun along with regular competition in the other four divisions. Racing is set to begin promptly at 6:00 pm. White Mountain Motorsports Park is located in Woodstock NH on Rt.3. Coming from the south take I-93 to exit 30, travel north about 3 miles. From the North take exit 32 off I-93, follow Rt.112 west to Rt.3 and turn left and travel about 2 miles south from the jct. of Rt.112 and Rt.3. WMMP is a family friendly park with designated smoking areas, clean restrooms, great food and drink along with a gift shop featuring photos of your favorite drivers, assorted gift ideas and NASCAR releated items. All race results printed here are unofficial and are subject to each driver passing inspection at the conclusion of the night. Donnie and Teri Avery want to thank our fans for thier support and we all look forward to seeing you next Saturday for another night of "Thunder in the Mountains".
