The 4th of July weekend proved to have plenty of fireworks this past Saturday night at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, as a tremendous field of cars assembled, along with a huge crowd, as they celebrated Independence Day weekend. Winners included Randy Potter, Oren Remick, Tom Keith, John Ledger, Bill Matatall and Cody Bodwell.
The fireworks came early in the NAPA Late Model Sportsman 75 lap main event, as all hell broke loose in turn three, as no less than thirteen cars were mangled in one of the wildest wrecks ever seen at WMMP. After a lengthy delay to clean up the carnage, only six cars were able to continue. At this point the decision was made to cut the event to 50 laps, and give the race teams fifteen minutes to make repairs. As the cars refired, twelve cars were able to take the green flag and resume the race. As the race continued on, a few more cars were able to return. Randy Potter from Groveton, scooted out to a comfortable lead and grabbed his first career win at White Mountain. Corey Mason, also from Groveton, rolled home second. The big battle was for third place, as Dan Colby from Lyman, NH, nipped St. Johnsbury, VT's, Stacy Cahoon at the stripe. Danville, Vt' s,Kendall Legendre raced home fifth. Heat wins went to Mason, Potter and Stacy Cahoon. Pete Fraser won the Semi.
Oren Remick from Warner, NH, picked up win number two on the season in the Gilmour Jeep/Ford/ Dodge Super Streets, as he outdueled West Burke, Vt, driver, Howard Switser. Following them home were Bernie Lantagne from McIndo Falls, Vt, Kenny Marier from Littleton and Mike Stygles from Piermont. Adam Delucca and Ken Marier won their respective qualifiers.
Pike's, Tom Keith, made an extremely bold move early on in the Beacon Motel and Resorts Strictly Streets, and it was all he needed to score the victory. Keith jumped out three wide, a move that is usually only reserved for the mini's, and then just cruised in the high lane to victory lane. Gary Griswold II from Bath continued to run strong this week as he raced home 2nd, followed by West Burke, Vt's, Steve Parker, Groton's, Toby Peter's and East Concord's, Todd Goodness. Heat checkers flew for Griswold and Jeff Dupont.
Rookie driver John Ledger from Penacook won his first regular season main event as he outdistanced runner-up, Opie Thayer from Concord in the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank. Rick Shifflett from Littleton cruised home third, followed by points leader, Brady Therrien from Lyndonville, Vt. and Bethlehem's, Les Washburn. Qualifiers went to David Gooden, Sean Akers, Les Washburn and Ledger. Consi wins went to Dan Bigelow and Therrien.
Bill Matatall, from Danville captured a photo finish checkered flag in the Hobo Hills Adventure Golf Mini-Cup cars main event. Ken Bowman from Grafton, Mass was 2nd, followed by Chester, Conn., Scott Haag, Jason Welch from Dalton and Campton's, Will Avery. Haag and Bowman won the preliminary races.
The Jadeview.com Kids Truck Division had an exciting finish as Farmington's, Cody Bodwell grabbed another win. Chasing Bodwell to the stripe were Methuen, Mss. driver Justin Marsen, Berlin's, Matthew Leblanc, Lebanon, Maine's, Zack Davis and Lunenburg, Vt's, Patrick Burt. Bodwell and Marsen won their heats.
