Tonight at White Mountain Motorsports Park we started off the night with a fifty lap feature for the NAPA Late Models. This was a make-up race from a couple of weeks ago. The qualifiers and the semi-feature had already been run prior to tonight, all that needed to happen was the feature. Taking a run for the lead and keeping it was Norman Andrews. He had his hands full with Brett Clairmont and Glenn Martel but still managed a win. Clairmont came in second and Martell finished third.
The Second Feature for the NAPA Late Models had much more excitement involved. During the first qualifier Matt Anderson won with Bernie Lantange placing second and Jeremy Welch finishing third. Anderson would go on to win the Semi-feature later in the night. The second qualifier saw Quinten Welch win, Brett Clairmont place second and Ben Lynch finish third. The second Qualifier saw Glenn Martel will with Todd Aldrich placing second and Donnie Lashua taking third. The semi feature was won by Matt Anderson putting him in the running for a triple crown here tonight. Finishing second was Glenn Martel and third went to Bernie Lantange.
It came time for the second feature in the NAPA Late Model division. Starting on the pole was Matt Anderson. Anderson came back to WMMP after a devastating crash early in the season that disabled his car and it was several weeks before he was able to return. Tonight was his crowning achievement so far this season. Anderson set a blistering pace early on making it difficult for the other drivers to even keep pace. Then at lap 11 came disaster for Russ Clark. Coming out of 2 and heading into the back stretch the Clark car appeared to get loose, it got into Stacey Cahoon's car and lost control, striking the back wall with a bone jarring crash. He struck that wall head on and bounced backwards onto the track. Emergency personnel assisted Clark out the car and the crowd breathed a sigh of relief as we got word that Russ was okay. The feature restarted and racing resumed, however around lap 20 it looked as though Jeremy Welch wanted some of that up front action. Challenging for the lead was Jeremy Welch who took to the outside lane. Anderson held his lead and Welch fell back. Laps ticked away and with 10 laps to go up came Brett Clairmont looking as though he was going to challenge Anderson for the lead. Sure enough, Brett Clairmont took to the outside and began pouring on the determination. Matt Anderson and Brett Clairmont then proved to the crowd that two drivers could race side-by-side for the lead without the bumping, rubbing and pushing we see all too often. Right to the very end those cars were side by side but when those checkers flew, Clairmont nosed out in front enough for the win. Matt Anderson cheerfully accepted second and Travis Fadden placed third. Excellent racing by these three men here tonight.
In the Shuttle Connection Super Street Division we saw Derek O'Hern win the qualifier. He seemed to be a man on a mission tonight, taking an early lead and he was just flying around this track. During the feature he certainly was the car to contend with as Cam Clairmont tried to keep pace. Coming up alongside of O'Hern though was Tim Churchill. Churchill managed to edge him out for the win and O'Hern had to settle for second, third went to Cam Clairmont.
The Beacon Resort Strictly Stocks saw a new driver this week driving Jeff Keith's former ride. Shawn Dennis slid in behind the wheel to try his luck out at WMMP. Dennis soon learned that luck was not necessarily on his side tonight. Mike Davis drove into victory lane as a third place finisher, Tom Keith took second and the win went to Steve Parker.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini division saw some familiar faces up front for the qualifier. Taking the win from Rubin Call was Nick Pilotte. At the Feature it was a different thing altogether. A few weeks ago Allan Young was involved in a wreck that damaged the front end of his car. Since then it has been an unhill battle for this young man. Not after tonight because Young proved he was back and with a vengence. Not only was he keeping pace with Rubin Call, Opie Thayer and Nick Pilotte, when all was said and done Young beat out Nick Pilotte for a third place finish and a visit to victory lane. Racing hard but not having enought to take the win was Opie Thayer and taking the feature was Rubin Call.
The HK Powersports Kids Truck division saw at least ten entries for the feature event. During the qualifing heat Allmon Evans was the victor. Trying to place in the top three again would not be in cards for Allmon Evans. There were at least five if not six cautions durin the twelve lap feature. Finishing third was Lucas Wheeler, second place was Derek Stone and winning the kids truck event was Brandon Bourne.
Next week WMMP will have kids bike racing. Four divisions of peddling action is scheduled to kick off the night: There will be a 5 year old and younger group, 6 & 7 year old group, 8 & 9 year old group and finally a 10,11 and 12 year old group. All participants are asked to be a WMMP and ready by 5:15. Racing action is scheduled to begin promply at 6:00. See you there !!
