The full card of events started off in fine fashion as young fans got to spend time with all the drivers and crew members on the annual Kids Day weekend. Once again, a lot of fun and laughs were had in the infield as teams treated the children with a variety of candies, toys, stickers, buttons and raffle items.
Once the track was cleared, a moment of silence was held for the passing of Cheryl Clark, and her sons Russell, Michael and Tim drove tribute laps in her honor. Stephen Clark, who was to join in the tribute with his brothers, was injured earlier during practice, transported to the hospital and treated for a chipped collar bone. He was released later in the evening.
Racing began with a 35 lap feature makeup event for the Napa Late Models. Derby Line, VT's, Mike Gosselin piloted his #9 along the high side of an unforgiving track surface early on to take home the checkered flag. Gosselin was joined in victory lane by St. Johnsbury, VT's, Tyler Cahoon in second and Dalton's, Quinny Welch in third. Pete Potvin and Rick Thompson Jr. finished fourth and fifth.
The Gilmour Jeep/Ford/Dodge Super Streets were also slated for a rain makeup as well and after 30 green flag laps, Pittfield's, Tim Casey had pulled down his second straight feature win. Casey held off challenges by Groton's, Daryl Smith in second, with his neighbor, Tim Churchill in third. Brockton Davis and Ken Marier finished out the top five spots.
The Hobo Hills Adventure Mini Golf Kids Truck division saw Danville, VT's, Bruce Melendy take top spot in the rookie division over Berlin's, Cody Leblanc and Salisbury's, Mac MacDuffie with a late race charge on the outside lane. The second feature went to Aaron Ricker who led from green to checkers, followed by Farmington's, Cody Bodwell in second and Methuen, Mass. speedster, Justin Marsen in third.
Pike, New Hampshire's Tom Keith fought his way to the front and held of a strong challenge from points leader Toby Peters from Groton, Vt., to win the Beacon Resort and Hotel feature event. Pole sitter Jamie Longley from Derby, VT. finished third, with Steven Parker and Gary Griswold Jr. close behind, rounding out the top five. Parker and Longley were heat winners earlier.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis fielded 22 cars for the start, but Concord, New Hampshire's Opie Thayer went to the outside early and went on to take the checkered flag over Gorhams, Ray Eames and North Woodstock's, Sean Akers in victory lane. Kyle Tatro and Nick Pilotte finished fourth and fifth. Heat winners were T,J. Ingerson and Les Washburn.
As the Super Streets began their send feature of the night, Steve Patnaude of Pittsburg, New Hampshire went door handle to door handle with Ken Marier from Littleton, for several laps before Marier got a good run off of turn to and went on to win the feature event. Marier was followed by Alfred, Maine's, Dave Langlais in second and Patnaude in third. Jason Wyman and Howard Switzer followed in fourth and fith position. Qulifying heats were won by Patnaude and Langlais.
The Napa Late Models again took center stage for the final event of the evening. Derek Ming, who had worked his way to the front all night in a triple crown effort, was found out of stock in post race technical inspections due to an illegal carburator. Dalton's, Quinny Welch was awarded the victory in the main event, followed by Barre, VT's, Pete Potvin and Newport, VT's, Rick Thompson Jr.. Marc Belanger followed in fourth place. Quilfying heats were won by Welch , Potvin and Rick Martel. Bill Duggan took the checkers in the semi feature.
White Mountain Motorsports Park will resume racing Saturday, August 22nd with gates opening at 1PM and green flag racing starting at 5PM with our regular card of racing and the return of the American Canadian Tour (ACT) to the high bank oval.
