The P.A.S.S. Pro Stocks were in town this past Saturday night at White Mountain Motorsports Park In North Woodstock, New Hampshire, for the DJ Equipment 150, along with our own Super Streets, Strictly Streets and Strictly Mini's. A near capacity crowd filled the Park and they were treated to some of the best racing of the season. Winners included Larry Gelinas, Doug Laleme, Gary Griswold II, and Brady Therrien.
The DJ Equipment 150 was filled with anxious moments, but none more anxious than that of Mike Rowe. Rowe, one of Maine's racing legends, saw his car erupt into flames after a hard crash in turn two. Rowe then drove up into the pit area and tried to extricate himself from the burning car. With the car completely engulfed in flames, several brave individuals dove into the fire to help free the trapped driver. After several attempts, finally he emerged from his destroyed racer, and ran clear of the inferno. After a lengthy delay to cleanup the mess, the field went back to green. When the checkers flew, it was Larry Gelinas, Ben Rowe and Johnny Clark scored as the top three. Dale Shaw, Dave Gorveatt and Ben Rowe won their respective heats.
The Gilmour Jeep Ford Dodge Super Streets ran a fifty lap main event green to checkers, and finally, Bethlehem's, Doug Laleme shook the gorilla off his back and raced home to his first win of 2003. Ken Marier of Littleton, Oren Remick of Warner, Piermont's, Mike Stygles and Whitefield's, Brock Davis chased Laleme to the finish. Heat wins went to Adam Delucca and Oren Remick.
It was a wild night for the Beacon Motel and Resorts Strictly Streets as Gary Griswold II from Bath survived a lap eighteen restart, and went on to post his second win of his rookie season. A major crash on lap eighteen, sent Littleton's, Tim Clark to the hospital after backing it into the first turn wall. The rescue team had to remove the roof from the automobile, and very carefully extricated the driver from his car. Tim spent the night in the hospital for observation, and was released on Sunday morning according to his brother, Russell Clark. When the race resumed, Griswold jumped out front, with Tom Keith of Pike, and Todd Goodness of East Concord, Vt., in tow. Heading into turn three of the final lap, Goodness dove inside of Tom Keith to grab the second spot. Groton's, Toby Peters and Limington, Maine's, Gary Adams rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Tim Clark and Griswold.
Once again the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Mini's put on a whale of a show, that wasn't decided until the cars came to the finish line and received their checkers. With some great three and even four wide racing going on throughout the race, the top ten were switching positions every lap in the caution free event. When the checkered flag was thrown, Lyndonville, Vermont driver, Brady Therrien scored his fourth win of the season, as he nipped Penacook's, Jonathan Ledger at the stripe. Concord's, Opie Thayer, Laconia's, Corey Bean and Gilford's, Trevor Lacasse completed the top five. Qualifiers went to Bean, Fred Pike and Matt Anderson.
This Saturday night the Beacon Motel Strictly Streets will go thirty-five laps. All six divisions will be in action. Gates open at 2pm, practice at 4pm and the first green flag flies at 6pm.
