Fadden stays red hot, May remains perfect with third straight win at White Mountain Motorsports Park
Travis Fadden continued his solid 2013 campaign, earning his first feature Late Model win of the year and Barre, Vermont’s George May made it three for three nailing down the Tiger/Sportsman event this past Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock. Other feature winners included Andy Hill, Jesse Switser, Gordon Day, and Wyatt Haywood. Dan Curran and Will Avery brought the Napa Late Models to green for their 50 lap main event. Avery took to the front early while Todd Aldrich battled several racers for the runner-up spot. Caution came out on lap 20 and the field regrouped with the division’s point leader now sitting in the second spot coming from his 10th starting spot. On Lap 24, Fadden had wrestled the lead from Avery. Contact and three wide racing ended the night for Avery. The local racer had a left front tire go down and he sailed off the racing groove in turn one and two making contact with the concrete. The final restart set off several racing battles throughout the field. There was plenty of side by side racing especially amongst the top five racers. Fadden dusted the field for the win and his third consecutive podium finish. Quinney Welch and Oren Remick Followed Fadden to Graphics Shop Victory Lane. The #83 of Tyler Cahoon, and the #51 of Jeremy Harclerode completed the top five. Heat wins went to Cahoon, Fadden, and Harclerode. The semi-feature was won by Katrina Canney. The White Mountains Community College Tiger/Sportsman ran their 25 lap feature caution free. George May rolled from his fifth place starting position and by lap six, the Barre resident took to the front with the #1 of Scott Coburn close in tow. Coburn got to the rear bumper of May several times but just never had enough to work past. It was the third straight feature win for May. Coburn, David Baron Sr., Stephen Hodgdon and Richie Lafond rounded out the top five. Coburn carried the winning flag during the qualifying race. The Twisted Tea Dwarf cars returned to the Park’s high banks for the second time in 2013 and the #8 of Andy Hill showed his rear bumper to the field for the entire 25 laps. A hard crash in turn one and two collected a couple of racers early resetting the field. Caution flew for five times giving the field their chance to try and beat Hill off the line. Hill dominated and allowed the others to fight for the remaining positions. Hill crossed the finish first with a sizable lead. The #16 of Dennis O’Brien, the #99 of Toby Merchant, Jason Wyman in the #88 and Jeff Ainsworth in the #41 rounded out the top five. Heat winners included Hill and the #48 of Mark Wiggett. The Kingdom Trailer Strictly Stocks ran their 25 lap feature in two hard racing five car groups. Pole sitter Gordon Day was dialed in, leading the entire event with the #31 of Brandon Bourne right on his back bumper. Barton Vermont’s Shane Sicard, Belmont, NH’s Elwin Sidney III, and point leader Tom Keith finished the main event in the top five. Day and Lucas Wheeler carried the checkered flag in the 10-lap heat events. Jesse Switser and Jeremy Wyman brought the Woodsville Guaranty Strictly Minis to the green flag setting a fast pace and forcing the rest of the pack to chase the leaders. The only driver to reach the duo was Whitefield’s Ben Belanger. Belanger and Wyman put on a great side by side battle. That great racing allowed Switser to build a huge lead, taking home the win. Belanger, Wyman, Brett Rowell, and Scott Cory were top five finishers. Switser and Michael Richards Jr won the qualifying heats. The Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Truck Division, has been under the watchful eye of race director, Danny Walker. The youngsters are doing some great driving and in the 15 lap main event, first year driver, Wyatt Haywood took control of the lead after the hood of truck #63 flew up and brought out the caution for leader, Michael Denis. Once the green waived again, the racing went straight through for the remainder of the feature, giving Haywood his first ever win. The #4 of Caleb Rogers made a beautiful last lap pass to finish second, Denis raced home third, Evan Amour fourth, and Anthony Tompkins fifth. Racing action will return to the speedway on Saturday June 22nd as the American Canadian tour comes to town for their 150 lap main event. Some of the Park’s best will lock horns with the ACT regulars. Also on the card will be the Tigers, Strictlys, Minis, and Kids Truck division. Pit gates open at noon, practicing starts at 2 PM and the racing at 5 PM.
