Race teams and race fans returned to White Mountain Motorsports Park this weekend after enduring two consecutive rainouts in a row. Racing action was at its finest this week with three qualifiers in the NAPA Late Model Division. The first one saw Donnie Lashua place third, Quinten Welch second and Glenn Martel the win. The second qualifier we saw Oren Remick place third, Todd Aldrich second and Brockton Davis the win. The third qualifier saw Will Avery place third, Travis Fadden second and Stacy Cahoon the win. The ten lap consi saw Stacy Cahoon place third, Glenn Martel second and Brockton Davis the win. This set Davis up for the possibility of a triple crown for the night. Going into the fifty lap feature we saw Davis work his way up to fourth place and at about lap 25 he made his move on the leaders. Going to the outside he worked his way up continuing to pass and by lap 31 had captured the lead. The first caution of the night came out at lap 32 when new driver to the track spun out at turn 3 and Norm Andrews had to brake hard to avoid contact. The restart placed Davis at the pole and when the green flew the pedal went to the metal and Davis took the lead, setting a blistering pace. At lap 36 mayhem broke out as David LaBrecque spun out in front of point leader Quinten Welch who expertly avoided contact and drove out unscathed. Davis continued to lead the field from the restart and as the checkers flew, won himself the triple crown. Placing second was Glenn Martel and third went to Todd Aldrich.
The Shuttle Connection Super Street Division had a ten lap qualifier with point leader Tim Churchill placing third, Gerald Griswold second and Tyler Alati taking the win. During the 30 lap feature, Tim Churchill made a push for the lead during the final laps and looked poised to challenge Tyler Alati for the win, but the car got loose coming out of turn four on the final lap and Churchill had to settle for third with Cam Clairmont holding on to his second place finish. Tyler Alati led the feature for the duration of the race and walked away with the win.
Two qualifiers were held for the Beacon Motel Strictly Stocks. The first qualifier saw Wade Willis place third, David Baron second and Dave Driscoll the win. The second qualifier we saw Mike Davis place third, Steve Parker second and Tom Keith the win. The twenty five lap feature saw action early on with a caution coming out at lap 4. Tom Keith, who came tonight fourth in points, suffered serious vehicle damage but was able to walk away from his car unharmed. Two other drivers also came into contact with Mike Davis suffering damage to his car. Davis tried to finish the race but had to pit due to vehicle damage being more severe than he thought. David Baron was also involved in that mishap but was able to continue on and finish the feature. Gordie Stone found himself in victory lane tonight for the first time this season as a third place finisher, David Baron took second and the well deserved win went to Steve Parker. Earlier this race season Steve Parker's grandmother and favorite fan fell after the races one night and unfortunately broke her arm. She was finally able to return tonight to see her favorite driver win the feature in the Strictly Stock division.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini division was ready for race action tonight. The ten lap qualifier saw Nick Pilotte in third, Opie Thayer in second and Rubin Call in first. Prior to starting the twenty lap feature the cars were brought out and stopped at the start/finish line with Nick Pilotte and Opie Thayer as the two lead cars for a special ceremony. A moment of silence was observed by a packed crowd for a long time friend of WMMP. Roland Richards, driver and car owner, passed away early on Saturday. All of us affiliated with WMMP share in the grief the Richards family is going through and we all give them our condolences during this most difficult time. The feature event then got underway and after twenty laps we saw Nick Pilotte place third, Opie Thayer second and Rubin Call the win. These three drivers are the top three drivers in victory lane most weeks and all three are the current point leaders. With only two more point races left for the season, it will be close right to the end.
The HK Powersport kids truck divison held a eight lap qualifier with Derek Stone finishing third, Alex Ferno second and Brandon Bourne the win. The fifteen lap feature event went smooth with Alex Ferno placing third, Lucas Wheeler second and Brandon Bourne the win.
Next week racing action begins promptly at 6:00 pm with another regular night of racing. The week after is our final points race and there is some close action going on. That week we will be racing on Friday night, September 18th at 6:00 pm. The Pro All Star Series is returning for a 150 lap feature event so mark that date on your calendar as the action should be hot. WMMP is located in Woodstock NH on Rt.3.
