Anderson tops in Dwarf Special as points battles simmer at White Mountain Motorsports Park
Shelburne NH’s Tim Anderson scored three straight third place finishes and went on to win the overall victory in the Twisted Tea Dwarf car triple feature special at White Mountain Motorsports Park Saturday. Other winners on the night included Stacy Cahoon, Scott Coburn, Lucas Wheeler, Jeremy Wyman, and Evan Amour.
Three 25 lap features were on tap for Twisted Tea Dwarf cars. The night was being sponsored by Hill Heating Services LLC, All Access Real Estate Associates, and Kingdom Cycle Worx. Dave Gyger of Campton NH brought a group that was 17 strong in their high powerebusiness as he led each lap until checkers flew. Andy Hill, Anderson, Bobby Brown, and Jeff Ainsworth rounded out the top five.
In the second segment, the field was inverted from the previous finish. The field was diminished by two cars that did not return. Kevin Scott Hockman and Jeremy Labrecque brought the field to green. By lap ten, the #7 car driven by Eric Boucher, took control of the second segment. Boucher finished first with Paul Marsan, Anderson, Hill, and Gyger completing the top five. That set the stage for the third feature with Gyger, Hill, and Anderson all dead locked with six points each.
There were fourteen cars remaining as the #33 of Hockman and the #17 of Tyler Jones led the Dwarfs to green. Jones set the early pace as the trio of racers in the hunt for the overall win were working their way from the back of the field. Just six laps in Jeff Ainsworth and Dennis O'Brien put on a great battle for the top spot. The duo rolled to a great finish with the #16 of O'Brien inching out Ainsworth for the win. Anderson had his third straight podium finish for the night, Polaski and Toby Merchant completed the top five for the third feature. For the evening, Anderson topped the field at nine points, Hill in second at 12 points, Gyger was third overall with thirteen markers, Ainsworth fourth at 15 points and the #99 of Merchant rounded out the top five netting 18 points. Four new cars were on hand in the NAPA Late Model division, making for some very exciting action. The three heats went off without a hitch. Oren Remick in his #21, Tim Churchill in the #66, and Travis Fadden in the #16, cruised to their heat 12-lap victories.
The nine car semi-feature had Will Avery and Bernie Lantagne battling side by side. Avery eventually held off the black #3 car, winning the ten lap event.
Thornton's Dave Labrecque brought the field of 20 cars to green for the 50 lap main event. A couple of early cautions realigned the field with veteran Stacy Cahoon showing the way. The 2012 division champ was chased all night long by Tyler Cahoon, Oren Remick, Travis Fadden, and Mike Jurkowski. Checkers flew for the champ in his #83, son Tyler rolled across in the runner-up spot, with Remick, Jurkowski, and Fadden in the top five. The White Mountains Community College Tigers were displaying some awesome side by side racing. The dust settled and it was the #1 of Scott Coburn taking his fifth win in 2013. Barre, Vermont's George May, Nashua's David Baron Sr., first time runner in 2013, Matt Potter, and the #84 of Richie Lafond completed the top five racers. Coburn won the heat race.
The front row of Logan Oliver and Amanda Wheeler brought the Kingdom Trailer Strictly Stocks to green. The V8 powered stockers were slowed by just a pair of caution flags. Great battles took place throughout the field. Lucas Wheeler got to the line first for his first win in 2013. Oliver, Shane Sicard, Elwin Sidney III, and Bobby Taylor fought off the rest of the contenders to complete the top five. The two Wheelers siblings won the qualifying events.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis had 12 racers on hand, including 2012 champion Lisa Hodgdon in her recently purchased ride. Whitefield's Sammy Gooden Jr took control of the first 18 laps from his pole position. No one was making the outside groove work. For the second week in a row, the #23 of Jeremy Wyman inched up into the outside groove and began passing the field one at a time. Wyman worked the outside lane to perfection taking the lead with just two circuits to go. Wyman captured his fourth feature victory with Gooden, Desirae Sicard, Scott Corey, and Ben Belanger garnering the first five spots. Gooden topped the field in the division's heat race.
The Dad's 4 By Tool & Supply Kid's Truck division had eight racers lining up for the first time in years. Some new faces dotted the field and all of the drivers showed some true respect taking their time around the new competitors. On lap two, the #4 of Kaleb Rogers and the #63 of Michael Dennis went for wild rides when a rim broke on the #4 machine. Unfortunately, that ended the night for Dennis. Going back to green flag racing, Taylor Coburn and Evan Amour ran side by side. Amour inched ahead to take the lead. Checkers flew for Amour, second to Rogers who motored from the back of the pack, Coburn third, Gorham NH's, AnthonyTompkins, fourth and new comer, Will Mitchell, in his new #23 rounding out the top five. Checkers flew for Dennis in the qualifying race.
There are just three events remaining in 2013. Points battles and several new faces have been coming to the Park to finish off the year. On Saturday night the Late Models, Tiger/Sportsman, Strictly Stocks, Strictly Minis, and the Kids Truck Division will be on hand as drivers try to sort out their final points standings. The racing action begins at 6 PM, with the pit gates opening at 2 PM and practice at 4 PM.
