Thunder returns to the mountains as the ACT was ready to rock and roll, only to be dealt a blow by Mother Nature. Threatening skies prevailed most of the day as practice got underway, with 45 Late Model cars preparing for 30 open slots. As the qualifing got underway, the HK POWERSPORTS Kids Truck division saw the successful return of Derek Stone in his #77 truck, taking the checkered flag after struggling for the past few weeks.
Appearing next on the track were the NAPA Late Models and drivers from ACT, with four qualifiers being completed with a slight shower interrupting the action. As we moved forward to qualify the SHUTTLE CONNECTION Super Streets, rain began to fall at the two lap warning. Jeremy Welch in his #88 spun around coming out of turn four and slid down into the #6 of Adam Delucca who had no time to react. Serious damage occurred to both the #88 of Welch and #6 of Delucca but no apparent injuries.
The rain caused everything to come to a halt. ACT officals and track owners Donnie and Terri Avery concluded that racing for tonight would have to be postponed. ACT racing will resume at WMMP on Saturday August 2nd.
Next Saturday on July 5th we return to our summer schedule, with the pit gate opening at 2pm, the main gate at 4pm and racing beginning at 6pm. Next week we feature the kids pit tour, all kids are asked to be at the track no later than 5pm for the start of the kids pit tour. WMMP is located approximately 2 miles south on Rt.3 from the lights in North Woodstock.
